Entry Requirements
Minimum of 3 or more qualifications in grades 5-3, including English, Maths, and Science.
Suitable applicants will be interviewed to assess their interest and passion for hairdressing. They must have a smart appearance and good interpersonal skills.
Intent
This qualification is designed for learners wishing to gain work-ready foundation skills and knowledge in hairdressing.
Implementation
The study takes place in a realistic working environment, where learners will work on live models after initial training on training heads. The learner must participate in Employer Engagement as part of their course, and this means one day per week is spent in an industry work placement. Theoretical input takes place in a classroom environment and includes the use of industry manufacturers and awarding body learning portals.
Impact
The City & Guilds qualification provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to operate in employment as a junior/entry-level stylist, completing foundation and some more advanced services.
Important Information
Students must adhere to the salon dress code; details will be given upon admission. Specialist equipment will be required. This can be purchased through the school or independently, but it will total approximately £200. Students over nineteen at the start of the course must also pay additional course entry.
For health and safety reasons, students must be able to work independently in the professional environment to be able to access this course.

In addition to the below mandatory units, candidates must prove ’Employer Engagement’ during their course to gain certification.
For the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing, the teaching programme must cover the content detailed in the mandatory units below:
- Unit 201: Principles and practices of hairdressing and barbering services (GLH 90)
- Unit 202: Shampoo, condition, and treat the hair and scalp (GLH 30)
- Unit 203: Cut hair using basic techniques (GLH 120)
- Unit 204: Style, set and dress hair (GLH 90)
- Unit 205: Colour and lighten hair (GLH 120)
For the Level 2 Technical Certificate for Cutting and Styling Services, the teaching programme must cover the content detailed in the mandatory units below:
- Unit 201: Principles and practices of hairdressing and barbering services (GLH 90)
- Unit 202: Shampoo, condition, and treat the hair and scalp (GLH 30)
- Unit 203: Cut hair using basic techniques (GLH 120)
- Unit 204: Style, set and dress hair (GLH 90)
- Unit 206: Plait and twist hair (GLH 30)

Hairdressing Future Paths
Upon successful completion of this qualification, students can progress onto a Level 3 Technical Diploma in Hairdressing, Technical qualifications in Barbering or an apprenticeship, or employment in a salon as a junior stylist.
