Intent

To develop and prepare young people for the world of work.  To instil the knowledge, understanding and skills required to enter the Hair & Beauty Sector and those employability qualities employers want. Setting young people up to progress to further education opportunities or the workplace.

A career in the Hair and Beauty industry can be very rewarding.  The industry offers a variety of roles, most of which are both social and creative. At Knole Academy, we offer industry-ready technical qualifications in KS5 (Sixth Form).  Courses are delivered within a realistic salon environment where members of the public are welcome.

At KS4, the courses introduce the learner to the hair & beauty industry. The Level 1 qualifications are GCSE 4-1 equivalency, and the Level 2 is 9-4 equivalency. A learner can progress from these qualifications directly to those offered at post-16 or an apprenticeship.

Implementation

At KS4, classroom activities will include individual and group work, project work, question and answer sessions, and research and discussion tasks. Note-taking will be required, and ICT interactive activities will be used. Learners will participate in workshops in the realistic learning environment (RLE), working on peers or mannequins as appropriate.  At level 1 candidates’ complete modules across the duration of their course, mainly these consist of practical tasks, assignments and short answer tests, that are graded and contribute to the end qualification.  At level 2 end-point exams are taken, a externally set synoptic assessment and a externally set short-answer exam paper.

Impact

These City & Guilds (GCSE equivalent) qualifications will prepare candidates for an industry ready qualification or apprenticeship in the Hair & Beauty sector. Equally a candidate might use the life and soft skills learnt here to aid their educational progress.
