What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?
The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) is a world-renowned program that challenges young people to push their boundaries, develop new skills, and gain personal achievements. It is designed to help you grow as an individual, with opportunities for physical, community, and outdoor adventure.
Whether you’re interested in gaining new experiences, earning certificates for your CV, or simply doing something fun, the DofE Award has something for everyone.
Key Components of the Duke of Edinburgh Award
There are three levels of the DofE Award that you can work towards at Knole Academy:
- Bronze (for those in year 9 and over)
- Silver (or those in year 10 and over)
- Gold (or those in year 12 and over)
Each level consists of four sections (five at Gold level):
- Volunteering – Give your time to help others.
- Physical – Develop your physical fitness and try new activities.
- Skills – Learn something new or improve a skill.
- Expedition – Go on an outdoor adventure with your team to put your skills to the test.
- Residential (Gold only) – Take part in a residential activity to broaden your experiences.

How to Get Involved
- Check Eligibility: Students in Year 9 and above are eligible to join the DofE Program.
- Register Your Interest: Fill out the online form or speak to Mr S Ereaut for more details – sereaut@knoleacademy.org
- Choose Your Activities: With guidance from our staff, choose activities for each of the four sections of the award.
- Start Working Towards Your Award: Begin your journey by completing your sections at your own pace. You’ll be supported by Knole Academy staff and mentors throughout the process.
